Optimized ergonomics at the front : A redesigned interior for paramedics!

The eFX ambulance from Demers is setting new standards for emergency vehicle design. Throughout the conceptualization process, the Strategy and Innovation team collaborated very closely with paramedics, always making sure their well-being was prioritized for every design idea.

It was with this objective in mind that Demers, in partnership with Lion Electric, achieved a groundbreaking milestone by developing the world’s first electrically powered ambulance, specifically made for medical transport. By removing the front motor, the vehicle has increased the optimization of the interior space, which means a lot more space to move around and a more ergonomic work environment.

The steering wheel is now equipped with 24 integrated features that give paramedics greater control. Among these features, six are specifically designed for ambulances, covering functionalities such as emergency lighting and sirens. The front console complements this with a user-friendly 15-inch touchscreen, enabling easy access to all chassis and healthcare module settings. Moreover, it provides the convenient capability of projecting content from mobile devices onto this interface.

Aside from the impressive technical features, the interior configuration of the eFX prioritizes spaciousness, offering a comfortable ride and plenty of legroom. The driver also benefits from an expanded field of vision, improving everyone’s safety on board and on the road.

We also designed the vehicle so that it’s a practical workspace, maximizing every inch of space. There is a storage space behind the seats so paramedics can store their personal belongings.  A large, electrically operated window facilitates communication with the healthcare module. A separate heating and air conditioning system in each zone completes the compartmentalization, effectively reducing the risk of cross-contamination.

The eFX goes beyond mere innovation; it delivers an unmatched driving experience and creates a revolutionary workspace for paramedics.
