That’s what the Chief of Durham Paramedic Services, Troy Cheseboro, observed after the integration of new remounted ambulances in its fleet. “I wouldn’t believe It was a remounted box. I was that impressed. I was so happy with the work and the way it turns out and how it looks. I sent pictures to other chiefs and they subsequently, much like myself, were amazed“, he continued.
Without the good advice of his representative who described to him exactly how the process worked, the municipality would not have even considered this option; the product was not part of their strategy, but a desire to be more cost-effective while still having growth needs led him to find other solutions.
“When you take those savings cost of a new vehicle versus the cost of the remount as well, let’s say you are saving about 60K$ per truck. If that’s six trucks, it is $360,000$, which is the cost of another truck. You kind of get one free at the end of the day, he calculated. Value for money is there.”
In addition to offering substantial savings, choosing a rebuilt ambulance extend a care unit’s lifespan and is environmentally friendly since it’s possible to reuse materials. The process involves not only the repair of damaged components but also the addition of technological elements if required. All these were done by the qualified and experienced workforce of our Service center, located near the main plant, where Mr. Cheseboro had a first-row seat to see the progress of his vehicles.
“All the work that is done down there, the fact that they strip down the vehicle to bare nothing, clean it, bandsin it, make the interior shiny, nice and clean again, repair the floor, repaint, restriped, put back onto a new chassis, with proper wires, harnesses, all that sort of stuff, it alleviates the stress off”, he mentionned, adding that he’s now reassured about his main concern: ensuring to provide the paramedics with “something reliable to transport people to the hospital”.
That discovery quickly turned into a two-fold order: initially, the purchase covered only five vehicles, but that quickly grew to nine and even became a long-term strategy. “My plan going forward is to continue to order about 50% of my future build as remounts” mentionned the Chief who is “so far very impressed with how well it has performed”.
