The Lion Electric chassis manufacturer will soon introduce the world’s first ambulance with a front cabin to meet the needs of ambulance services.
Lion Electric and Demers Ambulances worked together to improve paramedics’ comfort while in their work tool. When clients sat in the prototype, they noticed a significant change in visibility. They noticed that the driver’s field of vision was wider and broader. The field of vision is expanded because the driver sits higher than in a traditional ambulance, just above the front axle. As a result, the glass surfaces are larger and more vertical, reducing visual obstructions caused by structures at the corners of the doors and windshield. As the paramedic nears an intersection in the electric ambulance, their elevated position above the Lion5 chassis axle aligns their field of vision directly with the intersection, providing an immediate and extended view ahead and on the sides.
This setup, paired with light finishing materials, ensures cabin comfort and spaciousness. These improvements enhance the driver’s spatial awareness for responsive emergency driving. The paramedics’ input during Demers Ambulances tests sparked important discussions with Lion, which covered topics like current mirror design. What emerged from these great discussions was the need to reduce the visual obstructions because of vehicle width, as well as a better design for the convex mirror reduction in visual obstruction and overall vehicle width, along with an improved design for the convex mirror, providing enhanced lateral views. The electric ambulance’s cabin ensures outstanding driving comfort and visibility, positioning the eFX at the forefront of ambulance ergonomics.
