Type 2 Ambulances: A Deep Dive

In 2015, Demers Ambulances introduced the Transit model, initially designed to meet the specific needs of emergency services across Canada and the United States. Renowned for its exceptional maneuverability and ability to adapt to diverse urban and regional environments, this model quickly found its place on the market. Then in 2022, Demers designed the TXB to accommodate the Quebec market with a few changes.

Type 2 Ambulance: A Value-Centered Design

Demers Ambulances offers two Type 2 models, the Transit and the TXB. Both of these models have been designed to be a cost-efficient option compared to the type 1 and 3 models. They are fuel efficient, have shorter lead times and have a lower cost of ownership. Together, Transit and TXB provide great value, making them excellent choices for emergency services looking to optimize their operations.

Roof Design Engineered for Optimal Aerodynamics

The roof design of the type 2 serves multiple benefits: it reduces air resistance, lowering fuel consumption on trips—a key factor for fleets looking to cut costs and increase efficiency. Additionally, it maximizes the effectiveness of emergency lighting, enhancing visibility from a distance during emergencies. It also minimizes wind noise at high speeds.

Type 2 ambulance storage

Smart Storage Solutions

The materials used for the type 2 cabinets are both lightweight and durable, enhancing the overall payload without sacrificing equipment safety during transit. This lighter payload translates into additional capacity for essential medical equipment and supplies, optimizing space and efficiency.

Ergonomic front cab design

For the TXB model, we wanted to make paramedic comfort the main focus in the front cab. For this reason, 20 inches of were added behind the seats, providing an ergonomic space with plenty of room for the driver to stretch out comfortably during extended waiting periods. Whether parked at the scene of an emergency or en route to a mission, the space allows them to lie comfortably during extended waiting periods.

Exceptional maneuverability, smooth suspension

The type 2 suspension system is designed to minimize patient discomfort and provide a smoother ride for the paramedics on board. Whether on rough terrain or in urban areas, the TXB offers a higher level of comfort so that paramedics can concentrate on patient care without the discomfort of bumps and jolts.

Driving a type 2 ambulance resembles driving a truck which means that it has exceptional maneuverability, whether it’s on narrow city streets or in open country. Its design allows it to adapt to different terrains, making it great for emergency services and reducing response times.

Evacuation Chair

Our type 2 models are also equipped with an evacuation chair that is easily accessible. This chair allows paramedics to quickly and securely move patients down stairs or through narrow passageways without the need for lifting, reducing the risk of injury for both patients and paramedics. Its lightweight and foldable design makes it easy to store and deploy, ensuring that it’s always ready for emergencies where quick evacuation is necessary.

Lower step

The TXB’s improved step design is lower than the previous transit model. This was designed to facilitate access to the vehicle, making it much easier to get on and off.

This feature will help improve efficiency so that you can easily enter and exit the ambulance quickly, which ensures better easiblity and faster e response times.

Type 2 ambulances are a great option to include in your fleet, not only because of their fuel efficiency and lower cost of ownership, but also because of their excellent maneuverability in different environments. Their shorter lead times are also a plus if you need a vehicle in a shorter timeframe.
